Up and Down the Ladder

September 6, 2009

(If you’d like, you can sing this one to the tune of Pop! Goes the Weasel!)

Playful tricks with rickety sticks,
As John climbs up the ladder,
Up he sprung and snappéd the rung,
Schwump! Down the ladder!

Susie sings of innocent things,
‘Tis she that broke the ladder
Prop’d ‘gainst the wall, caused Johnny to fall,
Schwump! Down the ladder!

John does stand with head in his hand,
Beneath the broken ladder.
His mind less sound, since he hit the ground,
Schwump! Down the ladder!

Behind the Rhyme.
